Working Group for C57.110
Non-Sinusoidal Load Current

Scope:

This recommended practice applies only to two winding transformers covered by IEEE Std C57.12.00-20xx,IEEE Std C57.12.01-20xx, and NEMA ST20-1992. It does not apply to rectifier transformers. The WG will incorporate all information from the errata sheet and update as necessary.

Pacific Power Source of CA is developing the following white paper (initial draft), "Large Scale Use of Solid State AC Power Sources for Automated Transformer Testing,"  to advocate some of the advantages of using this technology for transformer testing:

"Large Scale Use of Solid State AC Power Sources for Automated Transformer Testing," - Draft White paper by Pacific Power Source of CA:    (200kB)

The question was raised as to whether these power sources could be used to generate waveforms with varying harmonics.  Based on discussions, the equipment can very easily create waveforms with varying harmonic and/or ring content.  Pacific Power Source has a 1999 document, "UPC Interactive Add-In - SINE32.XLS," that addresses the process for creating waveform definition files, as well as, an Excel program, "UPC12/UPC32 Waveform Synthesis Spreadsheet," tool that creates the file.  These are copyright protected and cannot be provided here.  See the document below for contact information:
